The German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt- DBU) awards 60 fellowships per year foradvanced qualification in all fields of environmental protection and natureconservation in Germany . Highly qualifieduniversity graduates of all disciplines from the countries of Central andEastern Europe are welcome to apply. The DBU cholarships cover a 6-12 monthstay at Germany host institutions: universities, research institutes ,companies , environmental and nature protection gencies and authorities,NGOs, associations etc.

The monthly grant is 1250 Euro. A health, accident and liability insuranceis included. We offer also seminars, an intensive German language course,participating in conferences and invitations to important events, summeracademies etc.. Working closely together in an international context helpsto create a strong network of highly committed environmental experts.

The application takes place via online tool in German or English. Applicantssubmit a description of a topic of environmental protection or natureconservation they would like to work on in Germany. This topic should be ofenvironmental relevance for the home country, the EC or globally. PhDstudents are eligible if the PhD thesis is not already completed during thefellowship. The commitment of a host institution must not be available atthe time of application. With the help of the DBU a suitable host can beorganized after the positive application process. Own initiative of theapplicants is highly appreciated. The host institutions provide theworkplace and guarantee professional supervision.
