Chemistry course was introduced into the curriculum of the Veterinary
faculty of Zagreb as early as in 1919, at the time when the Faculty
was founded. The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1940 by
professor Adolf Re`ek who remained its head until 1973. At first,
chemistry classes were held in the first two semesters of the studies
and since 1977 chemistry classes have been held in 1st and biochemistry
classes in 2nd semester of undergraduate studies.
The purpose of both research and teaching carried out at the Department
is to enable students of Veterinary medicine to come to an understanding
of research carried out in the broad areas of both medical chemistry and
biochemistry.
The Department takes part in postgraduate studies with its biochemistry
classes. In its field of study the Department staff cooperates with
other departments of the Veterinary faculty as well.
