DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

Chemistry course was introduced into the curriculum of the Veterinary faculty of Zagreb as early as in 1919, at the time when the Faculty was founded. The Department of Chemistry was founded in 1940 by professor Adolf Re`ek who remained its head until 1973. At first, chemistry classes were held in the first two semesters of the studies and since 1977 chemistry classes have been held in 1st and biochemistry classes in 2nd semester of undergraduate studies. The purpose of both research and teaching carried out at the Department is to enable students of Veterinary medicine to come to an understanding of research carried out in the broad areas of both medical chemistry and biochemistry. The Department takes part in postgraduate studies with its biochemistry classes. In its field of study the Department staff cooperates with other departments of the Veterinary faculty as well.
