Two days after the Veterinary Faculty marked its 100th<\/sup> anniversary at the Westin Hotel, with many guests joining the celebration on the basis of their inter-institutional and international cooperation, along with our retired professors and active employees, students and veterinarians, who received their diplomas from this Faculty, the 100 years that have passed since the foundation and the beginning of the work of the Faculty were once again marked by a celebratory session of the Faculty Council, on 15th<\/sup> November 2019.\u00a0 This celebration took place for a smaller circle of guests, with our teaching staff, employees and students, retired professors and closest associates.\u00a0 The session was attended by Prof. Damir Boras, with the Vice-Rectors, Prof. Miljenko \u0160imprag and Prof. Mirjana Hru\u0161kar, a representative of the City of Zagreb, Ivan Matijevi\u0107, DVM, representatives of the Croatian Veterinary Chamber \u2013 the president, Ivan Forga\u010d, DVM and secretary Dr. An\u0111elko Ga\u0161par, academicians Josip Madi\u0107, \u017deljko Cvetni\u0107 and Dra\u017een Mati\u010di\u0107 and others.<\/p>\n

\"\"\r\nDean Prof. Nenad Turk, DVM, PhD<\/span>\r\n<\/a>\"\"\r\n<\/span>\r\n<\/a>\"\"\r\nRector Prof. Damir Boras<\/span>\r\n<\/a><\/div>\n

In his introductory address, the Dean, Prof. Nenad Turk, DVM, PhD<\/strong> referred to the activities that took place in the past academic year. The 2018\/2019 academic year was marked by preparations for the 32nd<\/sup> Annual Assembly of EAEVE, held in Zagreb in May and organized by the Veterinary Faculty. There were also preparations for other activities which took place throughout the year to celebrate the 100th<\/sup> anniversary, scientific and professional events, exhibitions and concerts, and the main event \u2013 the celebration held on 13th<\/sup> November at the Westin Hotel.\u00a0 In addition, the Dean also spoke about teaching work, international cooperation, scientific research work, business and investments, and mentioned the special, redesigned edition of this year’s Yearbook (Ljetopis<\/em>) which records these events, under the editorial eye of the new editor-in-chief, Prof. \u017deljko Pavi\u010di\u0107, DVM, PhD.<\/p>\n

The celebratory session, as well as a presentation of the monograph marking the 100th anniversary of the Veterinary Faculty, about which we present a separate article below, also included the presentation of awards and acknowledgements to our staff, students and associates.<\/p>\n

First of all awards for science were presented by the Dean and the Vice-Dean for science, postgraduate studies and life-long learning, associate professor Dean Konjevi\u0107, DVM, PhD. This year they were received by Prof. Vladimir Mrljak, DVM, PhD<\/strong> for his overall contribution to the scientific research work of the Faculty, and Prof. Tajana Trbojevi\u0107 Vuki\u010devi\u0107, DVM, PhD<\/strong> for her paper published in the journal Cell<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Academic Choir of the Veterinary Faculty, Ab ovo,<\/em> Prof. Dr. Sc. Kristina Matkovi\u0107, announced the award of certificates of appreciation, awarded posthumously to the prematurely deceased Assoc. Prof. Hrvoje Luci\u0107, DVM, PhD<\/strong>, the founder and leader of the strings and wind orchestra of the Veterinary Faculty, for encouraging and promoting the cultural and artistic activities of students and employees, and to the conductor Maestro Josip degl\u2019 Ivellio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As every year, retired employees were presented with certificates of appreciation for their many years’ work.\u00a0 The Dean and the Vice-Dean for human resources, organization and management, Prof. Ljubo Barbi\u0107, DVM, PhD, presented these certificates to Prof. Nora Mas, DVM, PhD<\/strong> and Prof. Bela Njari, DVM, PhD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Awards were also presented this year to prominent employees, both former and current, and our most faithful associates. Prof. Alen Slavica, DVM, PhD<\/strong> received an award for organizing the 32nd Annual Assembly of EAEVE, Assis. Prof. Zoran Vrbanac, DVM, PhD<\/strong> also received one for organizing the celebration of the 100th anniversary, the head of the Accounting and Finance Department, Silvija \u010culig, <\/strong>received an award for her outstanding work, along with an employee in the Maintenance and Technical Department, An\u0111elko Slavi\u010dek<\/strong>. On the occasion of the 100th<\/sup> anniversary, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the head of the Office for Integrated Studies, Vera Zrili\u0107, dipl. ing,<\/strong> now retired, and the manager of the student restaurant for many years, \u017deljko Klap\u010di\u0107<\/strong>. The editor of Veterina portal, Zoran Juginovi\u0107, DVM.<\/strong> received a certificate of appreciation for his work and presentation of the Faculty in the media, and Alen Brege\u0161, DVM<\/strong> received a certificate of appreciation for many years of successful cooperation and his participation in marking the 100th<\/sup> anniversary.<\/p>\n

Students received awards from the Dean and the Vice-Dean for integrated studies, Assoc. Prof. Andrea Gudan Kurilj, DVM, PhD and Prof. Juraj Grizelj, DVM, PhD. The Dean’s Award was presented to the 5th<\/sup> year student Mihaela Vranje\u0161<\/strong>. The following students received awards for the best grade average: for the first year Mihovil Matkovi\u0107<\/strong> with the highest average, 5.0, for the second year, Nikola Serdar<\/strong>, for the third year, Sanja Mofardin<\/strong>, for the fourth year, Lana Zovko<\/strong>, for the fifth year, Iva Ba\u010di\u0107<\/strong> and for the sixth year, Ivana Filip\u010di\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The best students on the course in veterinary medicine in English in the past year were the French students: the first year student Abigail Plan\u00e7on<\/strong>, the second year student, Elise Farah<\/strong> and the third year student Juliette Alexandra Magoga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The certificates of appreciation were presented to the student\u2019s organization: IVSA Croatia, Equus, Student Union and Vet Society.<\/p>\n

Genera d.d., a company that has encouraged our students for many years with scholarships and cash prizes, again awarded excellent students with prizes this year. Prof. Vanja Matija\u0161evi\u0107, presented a cash prize on behalf of the company to Iva Benvin<\/strong>, and Katja Mo\u010dibob<\/strong> and Antea Ra\u010dki<\/strong> received scholarships.<\/p>\n

A new promotional film by Alen Brege\u0161, DVM, was also shown at the celebratory session, presenting the first century in the history of the Faculty through the changing scenes of the past and present.\u00a0 We also had the opportunity to hear a sincere video message of congratulations by the Rector of the Veterinary University in Vienna, Ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Petra Winter. The session was further enriched by music from video recordings of the Academic Choir Ab ovo<\/em> and a performance by the music academy student, Mia Reba, accompanied on the guitar by the student, Filip Sekere\u0161.<\/p>\n
