Student mobility for Traineeship

Student Mobility for Traineeship  (Student Mobility for Placement)

Traineeships abroad for students

Erasmus+ supports traineeships (work placements, internships) abroad at any workplace for students currently enrolled in higher education institutions in Programme Countries at short-cycle, Bachelor, and Master levels, as well as for doctoral candidates. These opportunities are also available to recent graduates. By undertaking a traineeship abroad, you can significantly enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies that employers seek. Additionally, one in ten Erasmus+ trainees has started their own company.

Where to look and how to apply

The IRO VEF Erasmus+ office (erasmus@vef.unizg.hr) at your higher education institution can assist you with the application procedure and provide further information about the programme and available support.

For application purposes, brief instructions and a flowchart outlining the steps to apply and collect all necessary documentation have been created. The internal flowchart can be downloaded here: Internal FlowChart E+ Practice 25 26

To apply for the ERASMUS+ SMP call, you must collect the required documents for the competition from the Student Office. You can download the application here. Request for the issue – Student documentation

After the student has collected all the documentation specified in the instructions, in accordance with the Competition of the call and the Internal Flowchart, the documents must be registered at the institution and submitted to the IRO of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The registration form is available for download here. Official Application for enrollment in the call for E+ SMP

Good to know Access to Erasmus+ Online Language Support will help you learn the language used at your workplace.

Benefits for students and recent graduates:

  • – Develop entrepreneurial and creative skills highly valued by future employers.
  • – Improve foreign language, interpersonal, and intercultural teamwork skills.
  • – Gain a deeper understanding of another country and culture.
  • – A trainee can provide a new international perspective, innovative ideas, and active support.
  • – A trainee brings fresh enthusiasm, increased competitiveness, and innovation.
  • – Gaining trainees’ insights into their home culture can open doors to new markets and expand the business.
  • – Enhance competencies within the company: the trainee learns from employees, but employees can also learn from an international trainee through interaction with different languages and professional skills.

Duration – Traineeships abroad can receive Erasmus+ support for periods from 2 to 12 months. Students and recent graduates may also undertake blended mobility, which combines a short physical stay abroad (between 5 and 30 days) with a virtual period. Erasmus+ professional practice students may undertake placements in private or public companies, institutions, organisations, and other entities with legal entity status that are active in the labour market or in the fields of education and youth, as well as at universities awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.

The host institution must be located in one of the programme countries, which include EU member states, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey. The student arranges a host institution or company for the professional practice either independently or in consultation with the Erasmus+ coordinator at VEF.

The training course must be relevant to the degree-related learning and personal development needs and, wherever possible, be integrated into the study programme. The traineeship may be organised as an External Practical Training mobility to obtain 10 ECTS points (for 6th-year students), or as a voluntary mobility (from the 2nd to the 6th year), all in accordance with the Erasmus+ coordinator and Recent Graduate Status.

A traineeship can take place at any organisation of veterinary medicine located in the EU (e.g. UK and Switzerland). Any type of mobility must be defined in consultation with the Erasmus+ coordinator.

Financial support is defined and regulated by the call.

Students may receive financial support for their internships under the Erasmus+ programme. The financial support provided from Erasmus+ funds supplements the costs students would have incurred at their home university or in their home country. It therefore covers only a portion of living expenses.

Candidates for professional internships apply to the competition announced by the University of Zagreb. The competition is usually announced twice a year: the first round in May or June for the following academic year (for planned mobility departures from late summer or autumn of the same calendar year), and the second round in November (for planned mobility departures from as early as winter of the following calendar year).

For more information about outgoing mobilities, please contact the IRO at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb, at erasmus@vef.unizg.hr

Students with further questions about participating in Erasmus+ should check the frequently asked questions before contacting their institution or the IRO VEF.
