CEEPUS Summer School in Aquaculture

15.10.2024., Events, News, News release

This year, as many summers before, the CEEPUS International Summer School in Aquaculture was organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Sarajevo and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zagreb as part of the Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS). CEEPUS offers scholarships for student mobility within its network. This event was organized within the framework of the VetNEST network (Veterinary Network of European Student and Staff Transfer).

The summer school took place from 14 to 21 July and was attended by fourteen students from the veterinary faculties of Vienna, Sarajevo, and Zagreb. The lectures and practicals were organized by Prof. Almedina Zuko and prof. Adnan Jažić from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sarajevo and Prof. Alen Slavica and asst. prof. Tomislav Mikuš from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb.

The theoretical part of the school took place at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo, the practical part in fish farms and processing plants for salmonid species downstream of the Neretva (“Eko-fish” fish farm, Grabovica, Blagaj fish farm and Buna fish farm and fish processing “Salmon”, Salakovac), to the farms for bream and sea bass in Neum (“Karaka” and “Ancora”) or mussel and oyster farms in Maloston Bay.

We would like to thank all the farmers and food businesses who opened their doors to us, and selflessly shared their practical knowledge with the students, making our summer school different and special in a beautiful setting. Of course, we would also like to thank the students whose interest in the CEEPUS Summer School for Aquaculture grows every year, so we hope it will continue in the future.
