LITTLE FARM – Get to Know Croatia via its Animals

11.10.2023., News release

LITTLE FARM – Get to Know Croatia via its Animals is an Association of Veterinary Medicine Students Equus project. It is being carried out at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for the second year in a row. This year it will be held on 14 October 2023, with the opening ceremony starting at 09:00 hours, and will last until 18:00 hours. The exhibition will present more than 25 indigenous breeds of Croatian domestic animals as well as 20 family farms offering local Croatian produce. It will also host various entertaining and educational workshops and performances. Besides that, the Association organises lectures for students and doctors of veterinary medicine with education credits. Admission is free for all visitors.

The main goal of this project is to present Croatian indigenous breeds to the wider public. Except for its tangible heritage, Croatia has an exceptional biodiversity in terms of numerous animal breeds stemming from the rural parts of Croatia. Through industrialisation and urbanisation, these rural parts have been removed from the focus of attention and forgotten. Some of Croatia’s indigenous breeds are on the brink of extinction as they are only represented by a dozen individual animals still alive. With this project, we try to raise awareness about the importance of indigenous breeds of domestic animals and lay the foundations for their preservation, breeding and welfare.
