On September 30, 2024, at the University of Ljubljana, as part of the 8th Slovenian Veterinary Congress organized by the editorial board of the Slovenian Veterinary Research journal, a workshop and roundtable discussion were held on the impact of scientific journals on the quality of education, research, and professional development. Our staff members, Dr. Valerija Benko, Dr. Lucija Devčić, and teaching assistant Siniša Faraguna, participated in this workshop.

The opening speech and lecture were delivered by the editor-in-chief of Slovenian Veterinary Research, Assoc. Prof. Klementina Fon Tacer, who guided us through the key aspects of writing constructive and fair reviews. Numerous other senior and associate editors from veterinary and medical journals in Slovenia, Croatia, and Canada delivered highly motivating presentations related to best practices for writing scientific papers.

Prof. Vojteh Cestnik (Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ljubljana) provided a fascinating overview of the history and development of the local veterinary journal. Prof. John Kastelic (Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Veterinary Journal) offered essential advice on how to write high-quality scientific papers. Pšenica Kovačič (Graphic Editor of Slovenian Veterinary Research) emphasized the importance of visual elements in enhancing scientific publications. Prof. Svjetlana Kalanj Bognar (Editor-in-Chief of the Croatian Medical Journal) shared her insights on the development of medical publishing.
