What do you do if you see a dolphin? Learn through Blue project and CroDolphin app

If you see dolphin, please install “CROdolphin little” application on your smartphone and register sighting. Since 1995, all marine mammal species are strictly protected by the Croatian law, which means IT IS FORBIDDEN TO DISTURB OR KILL these animals or devastate their habitat.

Marine mammal (dolphins, whales, seals) research in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea started in 1990, and it was led by prof. Hrvoje Gomerčić from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Zagreb. All the data collected through this scientific research project has been published and can be found on www.vef.unizg.hr/dolphins/radovi/popis.htm.

The CroDolphin database is a system for registration of all dolphin sightings in the Adriatic, as this data is important for monitoring and protection of these species. The database is owned by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Zagreb, and if you would like to use this data, you need written permission from the administrator (tomislav.gomercic@vef.hr). It has recently been updated to it’s newest version and improved functionality through the „Blue project – (PLAVI PROJEKT – doprinos razvoju programa društveno korisnog učenja na Veterinarskom fakultetu u Zagrebu, funded by European social fund).

THE BLUE PROJECT – contribution to the development of community service learning program at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb The main purpose and the final goal of the project is to raise the awareness of the importance of dolphin and marine turtle protection and it is approved by and co-financed from European Social Fund (ESF). Argonauta association is the project coordinator with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Marine Educational Center Pula as partners.
