As in previous years, this summer also saw the organization of the international VetNEST CEEPUS Summer School in Aquaculture, jointly hosted by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sarajevo, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. The school is part of the Central European Exchange Program for University Studies (CEEPUS), which supports student mobility within its network, and this edition was carried out under the VetNEST network (Veterinary Network of European Student and Staff Transfer).
The Summer School took place from June 30 to July 6 and brought together 10 students from the veterinary faculties in Vienna, Sarajevo, and Zagreb. Lectures were delivered by Prof. Dr. Almedina Zuko and Prof. Dr. Adnan Jažić from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo, as well as Prof. Dr. Alen Slavica and Assistant Prof. Dr. Tomislav Mikuš from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb. The academic program, comprising both theoretical and practical classes (46 hours), grants students 3 ECTS credits.
The theoretical part of the course was held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo, while the practical training took place at fish farms and processing facilities along the Neretva River (“Eko-fish”, Grabovica, Blagaj, Buna, and the “Salmon” processing plant in Salakovac), extending all the way to sea bream and sea bass farms in Neum (“Karaka” and “Ancora”), as well as mussel and oyster farms in the Bay of Mali Ston.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the aquaculture producers who opened their doors to us, generously shared their practical knowledge with the students, and made the school a unique and enriching experience in a beautiful setting. Special thanks also go to the students, whose growing interest in the CEEPUS Summer School in Aquaculture year after year encourages us to continue developing this program in the future.
